Why Young Singers Plateau

Weekly lessons can be expensive and are sometimes difficult to sustain around school and other commitments, and singing apps hand everyone the same exercises regardless of the voice in front of them. How it works

  • 1. Start VocalLab. Join for £97 a month. No separate fee to begin, and nothing to book.
  • 2. Submit your Vocal Assessment. In your first few days, send Martin a short video of your singing. He reviews it personally and sets your starting pathway.
  • 3. Train through your pathways. Structured video exercises and written guidance, properly sequenced, followed at your own pace, at home.
  • 4. Check in every six weeks. Martin reviews progress and assigns the next pathway by hand, matched to where the voice is now. Personal direction, not a fixed playlist.

  • They are a committed young singer, typically nine to eighteen, ready to practise between check-ins.
  • Your child wants to train with West End Kids but you are not able to commit to private singing lessons.

  • Your child is looking for a casual, occasional singing programme with no intention to practice.
  • You are looking for a shortcut solution to fix one off problems or to prepare for a specific audition.

Meet Martin Williams

For over twenty-five years, Martin Williams has produced West End and Broadway leads, all trained from childhood. His students sing across the West End Kids and Internationally including Holly-Anne Hull as Christine in Phantom of the Opera, Kamilla Fernandes in Hercules, Esme Rothero in Six and many more. VocalLab is his method and his standards, delivered personally, at a scale that reaches singers wherever they are in the world or on their journey.

Common questions

How does the Vocal Assessment work?

Once you join, you will be sent a simple link to record and submit a short video of your singing. Martin reviews it personally within your first few days and sets your starting pathway. There is nothing to book and no separate fee.

My child is a beginner. Is this suitable?

Yes. The assessment sets a starting pathway that fits the voice, whether that is early foundations or advanced work.

We cannot get to London. Does that matter?

Not at all. That is the point of VocalLab. The training comes to you, wherever you are in the country.

How much practice does it take?

Little and often works best. The pathways are designed to fit around school, and Martin adjusts the next stage to the effort the singer is putting in.

How is this different from a singing app?

An app gives everyone the same exercises. VocalLab gives your child a pathway chosen for their voice, reviewed and reset by Martin every six weeks. It is training, not content.

What if it is not the right fit?

The assessment exists to answer that honestly before anyone enrols. If VocalLab is not right, Martin will say so and you may cancel at any time.

Can we stop?

VocalLab runs month to month. Real vocal development takes sustained practice but you can cancel at any time if it’s not right for your child.

What equipment do we need?

A phone or laptop, and somewhere to sing. Nothing else
