Throwback to an Incredible Performance: “I Wanna Be Like You” at Born Free’s 40th Anniversary

At West End Kids, we have had the privilege of performing at numerous prestigious events. One such memorable occasion was our performance of “I Wanna Be Like You” at the Born Free Foundation’s 40th Anniversary celebration. This event not only highlighted our troupe’s talent but also underscored our commitment to supporting important causes.

A Night to Remember

Celebrating 40 years of action for wildlife is a significant milestone, and the Born Free Foundation marked this occasion with a spectacular gala, Footsteps to Freedom, held at the Royal Lancaster’s Westbourne Suite in London. The gala was a star-studded event with over 250 guests, including VIP patrons and supporters of the foundation. Dame Joanna Lumley and Amanda Holden graced the evening, adding to the glamour and excitement of the celebration.

Our troupe’s rendition of “I Wanna Be Like You” from Disney’s “The Jungle Book” brought an infectious energy to the evening. The lively, upbeat number, complete with impressive choreography and vibrant costumes, was a perfect fit for the celebratory atmosphere. The audience’s response was overwhelming, with cheers and applause echoing throughout the venue.

The Preparation

Behind every great performance lies countless hours of rehearsal and preparation. Our troupe members dedicated themselves to perfecting every step, note, and expression. The choreography for “I Wanna Be Like You” was particularly challenging, requiring precise timing and coordination to capture the playful essence of the song.

Our musical director and choreographer worked tirelessly to ensure that every performer felt confident and ready. The hard work paid off, as our troupe delivered a performance that was both technically flawless and emotionally engaging.

Supporting a Noble Cause

Performing at the Born Free Foundation’s 40th Anniversary was not just about showcasing our talent; it was also about supporting a cause that aligns with our values. Born Free’s mission to protect wildlife and ensure compassionate conservation resonates deeply with us. By participating in this event, we were able to contribute to raising awareness and funds for their critical work.

Since our inception in 2001, West End Kids has been committed to supporting charities and good causes. From performing at the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee to participating in Glastonbury, our troupe has consistently used their talent to make a positive impact. The Born Free performance was a continuation of this proud tradition.

The Impact

Performing “I Wanna Be Like You” at such a significant event left a lasting impression on both the audience and our troupe members. It reminded us of the power of performance to bring joy, inspire action, and support meaningful causes. The feedback from attendees was overwhelmingly positive, with many expressing how much they enjoyed our lively performance.

For our troupe members, the experience was both rewarding and educational. They had the opportunity to perform at a high-profile event, understand the importance of wildlife conservation, and see firsthand the impact of their efforts.

Looking Ahead

As we look back on this incredible performance, we are filled with gratitude for the opportunity to be part of such a special event. We are also motivated to continue using our platform to support important causes and deliver performances that inspire and delight audiences.
